Evelyn’s second birthday

20th April, 2009 - Posted by karen -

Evelyn turned two years old today! It’s hard to believe two years have gone by already. It’s also amazing to see how she’s grown and changed over two years.

We had her birthday party yesterday. In the morning we made a carrot cake and decorated the house. There was some trauma over the fact that the balloons were for decoration only and Evelyn wasn’t allowed to play with them, but it eventually passed. After Evelyn’s nap, some of our friends came over to celebrate with us. One of Evelyn’s friends came over too, and Evelyn was very happy to have a baby to play with! Among other things, Evelyn received a Little Einsteins DVD and a toy trumpet to play with, which she seems very happy with. She hasn’t figured out how to actually make music with the trumpet but that hasn’t stopped her from enjoying it.

Toward the end of the afternoon we went to the park and Evelyn and her friend played in the playground. Everyone had a great time until one of the party guests needed some unexpected medical attention, at which point an ambulance was called and the party was pretty much over. It was definitely a birthday party to remember! (The person in question is feeling better now, which we are all glad to hear…).

Today (which is actually her birthday) when we went out for groceries we let Evelyn wear a paper “golden” crown while we pushed her around in the cart! We also used some of the birthday money she received to buy a bucket and shovel and some bouncy balls for playing in the park, since we never end up bringing any toys for her to play with and she always plays with other kid’s toys. In the end it worked out that she played with someone else’s and another girl played with hers but at least we tried!

And lastly, Dan is teaching her to say “Cowabunga” and “Turtle power”.

Anyway, it was a really fun day. Happy birthday Evelyn.
