new crib

We bought a new (second-hand) crib this weekend. I have become a frequent visitor of the children’s consignment store near our place and about a month ago I saw a beautiful crib and dresser set there. Evelyn didn’t have a proper dresser; it was a cheap Ikea one we bought in Edmonton with four cube shaped drawers which were too deep to be useful. Of course we already had a crib (a gift from our friends T&J) but we were able to pass it on to our friends who are expecting. The new crib is real wood and has an off-white colour which makes the room look very bright. The dresser is really useful. Unfortunately I didn’t have room to put it near the crib but we did arrange things in a fairly functional way so it works fine for now.

Evelyn is now wearing the largest size one-piece available (or at least that I have found so far): 18-24 months! Since it has been getting cooler I use that as a base layer and then put pants and a shirt or sweater on top. I guess when she grows out of those she will have to get by with just pants and a shirt. We also got these really ugly but warm booty/socks at Zellers today.

I have also made several fruitless attempts at buying and modifying baby bowls to attach to our table (otherwise they end up on the floor or on Evelyn’s lap). It seems like our wood table has a very unstickable surface, as nothing seems to stay suctioned on there. I have a plan, though. I have a heavy wooden cutting board that we’re not using and I can stick a jar opener between that and the table which makes it very hard to move. I will try to put some velcro on the board and on the bottom of the bowls and see if that holds them in place. I guess the cutting board will also act like a placemat. This really should be easier!
