food!

I have now introduced food other than milk into Evelyn’s diet. Ok maybe “introduced” is a bit overreaching. More like she is now “aware of its existence”. Now she knows there is other stuff out there that goes in her mouth that doesn’t taste like milk and she wants nothing to do with it. I have to say I’m not surprised but I am a bit annoyed. I started with organic brown rice cereal (which I think tastes pretty good!) and I would say that she was open to it the second day I tried but not since then (a week and a half). Now when I make up a bowl and put her in the high chair she purses her lips and pulls away from the spoon. So I decided to just let her play with the spoon which is what she wants to do anyway, but I still can’t sneak cereal in her mouth. If I make up some cereal and let her play with it I can almost see what she’s thinking: how do I get this gross stuff off the spoon/bowl I want to play with? I have to find a way to fix the bowl on the table because right now the first thing she does is grab the bowl and turn it upside down. I also thought that maybe she really didn’t like cereal so I tried to give her some peas. Same story. I guess I will just keep at it. As much as I am tempted to add fruit or sugar to the cereal, I know that I shouldn’t. Sometimes it’s hard to be a good mommy!
On a happier note, we are now registered for parent/child swim classes which start on Saturday. We will see if she likes it or not. I have also had to actually buy clothing for her *gasp* because all the freebies are getting too small. Got some winter hats (did you know they make baby balaclavas?), a few shirts and a pair of thermal pants to keep her leggies warm.
