early memories

Now that I’m thinking about what Evelyn’s first few years will be like, it really reminds me of when I was very little. As I previously posted, I have some very good memories of being a small baby, especially at our place in Calgary where we lived until I was about 3 years old. Here is what I can remember:

  • The play center above my crib which gave hours of entertainment. I got quite good at spinning the ball with my feet
  • Diaper rash
  • The purple shag carpet in my bedroom which I would pull out
  • I would get thirsty during bathtime and my mom would always give me a little cup of cold water. When the cup was empty I would start drinking the bath water!
  • Before I could crawl my mom would prop me up in some pillows in the corner of the living room so I could see her in the kitchen. I think she gave me something to play with and I remember feeling like I was “checking in” on her every once in a while when I wasn’t playing
  • My dad used to put me in the laundry basket and push me around in the hall, which was incredible fun
  • Playing with the pots and pans in the kitchen, especially the tupperware bowls
  • My dad puting a teddy bear in his shirt and pretending that was his head, which always freaked me out a bit
  • Learning to walk by holding on to the edge of the table and going around and around and around it
  • Hating to crawl or walk across grass in bare feet
  • Playing in the sandbox
  • Going wading in some body of water with my mom and being really scared, probably Lake Okanogan

Oddly enough, I don’t have any memories of going to England with my parents, which seems like a fairly significant event!.
