I was reminded of Robert Munsch stories when my Dad was here. The official website is here, where you can download files of him reading the stories. My favourite is Angela’s airplane.

early memories

Now that I’m thinking about what Evelyn’s first few years will be like, it really reminds me of when I was very little. As I previously posted, I have some very good memories of being a small baby, especially at our place in Calgary where we lived until I was about 3 years old. Here is what I can remember:

  • The play center above my crib which gave hours of entertainment. I got quite good at spinning the ball with my feet
  • Diaper rash
  • The purple shag carpet in my bedroom which I would pull out
  • I would get thirsty during bathtime and my mom would always give me a little cup of cold water. When the cup was empty I would start drinking the bath water!
  • Before I could crawl my mom would prop me up in some pillows in the corner of the living room so I could see her in the kitchen. I think she gave me something to play with and I remember feeling like I was “checking in” on her every once in a while when I wasn’t playing
  • My dad used to put me in the laundry basket and push me around in the hall, which was incredible fun
  • Playing with the pots and pans in the kitchen, especially the tupperware bowls
  • My dad puting a teddy bear in his shirt and pretending that was his head, which always freaked me out a bit
  • Learning to walk by holding on to the edge of the table and going around and around and around it
  • Hating to crawl or walk across grass in bare feet
  • Playing in the sandbox
  • Going wading in some body of water with my mom and being really scared, probably Lake Okanogan

Oddly enough, I don’t have any memories of going to England with my parents, which seems like a fairly significant event!.

sorry for the delay…

Whew. I finally have a few minutes to do an update. My Dad came for 10 days and has just left to go to the airport, so we have been busy doing touristy things around Montreal, eating out or cooking and generally slobbing around. It was once again reassuring to have a parent around, since the fact that you exist is a testament to their ability to care for children. It’s always good to have a second opinion from a seasoned expert (”No, honey, I don’t think you should poke a hot needle in the baby’s eye”).

Evelyn is all grown up now and practically ready to move out. She is doing very well at holding up her head and as soon as she can lift up the rest of her body she will be crawling. She can say all sorts of sounds in babble sentences and grabs things well. She is eating less frequently now so we have a bit more control over the schedule of the day. In fact, we managed to do a great deal of things while my Dad was here including visiting Atwater market, the Lachine canal, the old port, the mountain and the Plateau. We also went downtown on the ridiculously hot days we had earlier in the week to enjoy the A/C.

In other news, Miette has a tumor and Dan and I can’t decide what to do. She doesn’t seem to be in much pain and seems otherwise alert and content, so we haven’t put her down yet. Technically I should be able to do it since I have had the training, but I don’t think I can.

I will get around to posting photos on Flickr and maybe some video on Facebook soon.
