booties!

Lots of exciting and annoying things new. First of all, my baby sling arrived on Thursday and I gave it a few practice goes. So far so good. I was worried about how complicated it would be, but actually it’s quite logical and easy to use. On Saturday, our new 5.3 cu ft freezer arrived! Finally I can actually buy ahead / make ahead again. I am so tired of having to pay so much for fresh chicken when frozen chicken costs 1/3 of the price and the kind I get is better than most of the fresh chicken I can afford. Also I really enjoy making batches of things like dumplings, pasta sauce etc. but didn’t have anywhere to keep the extras until now. The basket in this thing was as large (perhaps even a bit larger) than the entire freezer in our fridge. We had frozen a whole bunch of fruit at Dave and Sanan’s in August so I brought it home today. Now I can use it for muffins, milkshakes and yogurt. And guess what, I just found out the landlord is replacing our fridge on Thursday!! Delicious irony.
These past two weekends have been full of buying Christmas presents and I am glad to say I am finally done! Everyone on the list has a gift coming to them in the mail. One gift in particular should have taken only 20 minutes but because the place that sold it moved, I ended up walking 26 blocks Saturday to the new location. If I had known it was that far, of course, I would have taken the metro, but there you have it. And when I was mailing the boxes Sunday the printer broke at the post office so I had to wait 20 minutes to get the tracking numbers.
I went to a cool baby/children’s store in the Plateau and bought an awesome handmade non-toxic wooden rattle and super-cute shoes for Kicky. Also there is a consignment children’s store in our neighbourhood and I went there hoping to find furniture. It was mostly toys, books and clothing, but they had an awesome dragon/lizard/dinosaur/Loch Ness monster wooden pulltoy so I bought that. I am calling him Nessie.
I also broke down and bought a “granny cart” Saturday so I don’t have to carry so much stuff with me. With all the crazy places I end up going for groceries, I end up carrying a lot of stuff and was getting worried about how much weight I had to lift. Also when I’m carrying Kicky around in the sling I need my shoulders and hands free but I will still need to bring lots of things with me, so it seemed like a good idea. I used it Sunday to stock up on frozen food and after the last store one of the wheels broke! Admittedly I had way too much stuff in there and I should have been more careful going off the curb. Good thing is that I have 14 days to exchange for a new one. I will just have to be more careful with the replacement.
So the next big thing is that there are some BIG CHANGES at work coming. Not sure what will happen yet, could be hardly noticeable to very bad. Will have to wait and see. Does not make me feel comfortable at this time given pending mat leave, but am trying not to worry. Once the higher-ups settle what it is they want to do we will see what it really means for our department.
I’m busy filling out a whole bunch of forms for our passports and the cord blood banking. Did I mention that I don’t want to EVER have to deal with ANYHING ever again? I’m so fricking tired of filling out forms, calling banks, dealing with estate stuff, having doctor’s appointments and the like. What ever happened to free time???? Argh!
