I have something important to share with you, reader of this blog. This may be the first time you have ever visited or maybe you’re a regular but in any case you’re in for a surprise!
If you’re wondering why I haven’t been blogging much lately, it’s because I’ve been somewhat preoccupied and sleepy. Why is that, you ask? The answer is that Dan and I are expecting our first child. In other words, I am pregnant!
Ok pick yourself up off the floor and read that again!
As of today (Tuesday Oct 3rd) we are 13 weeks. I’ve been keeping this a secret since I found out in the end of July for obvious reasons, but it was really hard not to tell! Last week Dan and I went for an ultrasound and we saw this:

How about a close-up?

Here are the feet:

No, we don’t know the gender yet – this will be revealed in November. In the meantime it was very reassuring to know aside from a rather minor complication everything is going very well!
I’ve been going through all the textbook symptoms: a bit of nausea in the morning before I’ve eaten, “digestive changes”, sleepiness, and a little bit of headaches (seem to have stopped now thankfully). I lost my appetite a bit in the beginning but it’s back now. During the first month I was going to bed at 8:30 PM – I just couldn’t keep my eyes open after supper!
For those of you who know that I handle with some rather carcinogenic chemicals at work, rest assured that I informed my co-workers and supervisor as soon as I knew and other people have been handling the most dangerous ones for me. We also had a safety inspection last week and we’re very strict about the safety in our lab.
The due date is April 10th. Dan’s exams start around then. It will be interesting, no?
In the meantime we’ve had a blast posting images on our church website and having everyone guess who it is …

HOLY CRAP! You totally swerved me! I noticed you posted the original post, but never made the connection it could be you. I don’t think I’ve even heard you guys mention you were thinkig of having kids, so it was a surprise for sure. But anyhow…CONGRATULATIONS!
If you come home to show the baby to the family, I’ll definitely have to make a road trip, or you guys could come visit me.
Dandroid 2.0 is now beta testing!

Hee hee! I was SO worried you had noticed that and that everyone else had too! I was so careful to trim the images and take my name off, change the file names and everything and then totally forgot about using my frelling log-in name! Dave emailed me a couple of hours later saying “umm, I re-posted your message under my name …”
Thanks! I would like to come back in the summer, we will see how it goes with my leave and all that.

Congrats a 1000 times! You guys are going to make great parents and we want to be considered Uncle and Aunt. Thanks for letting us have fun with it all. Like Claudia said, “let’s do it again next month”.

Félicitations Karen and Dan!!! We are really excited for you! We just moved into our new apartment so our internet isn’t set up yet but I was so eager to know who the pregnant couple was… so I got my Mom to check on-line while I was talking to her on the phone last night!
We are so delighted for you both and can’t wait to observe the growing belly and to meet the baby in the springtime.

What’s funny is that I just thought you were the first one to know and that’s why you posted it.
I’ve seen so many good friends begin the adventure of parenting over the years, and I think you guys will be naturals (as much as anyone can adjust to a screaming, pooing little life form invading the house). Both you and Dan’s parents must be flipping out and looking at baby clothes and toys already! Is this the first grandchild?

Thanks everyone! It’s really exciting. A&J I’m really sorry I couldn’t reciprocate and help you move. I hope it went smoothly (as good as a Montreal move can get, anyway) and that you’re enjoying your new place.
Yes everyone was really excited. Actually we cheated a bit and told them a month ago and they’ve been really good at keeping it a secret, even from Dan’s siblings! For my parents it’s the first grandchild, for Dan’s parents the second.
When I was in Toulouse I bought some incredibly cute baby clothes and my co-worker who has a 3 year old daughter gave me her baby clothes and some toys too.

Your parents must be extra thrilled, then…it’s the moments all parents are waiting for: When they get to have kids around the house that someone else gets to take care of when they cry and fuss!
Speaking of baby clothes and baby stuff, I saw the greatest baby gift ever for your baby-in-progress. I’m not telling what it is, though, because I’ll probably have to buy it for him/her.

Oooo…I can’t wait!!
