Well, I have to say I’m a bit sad. Since we got Miette she has never been happy to let Keiko be the dominant mouse (even though Keiko is older and at least at the beginning was larger) and Keiko has been obstinant about not submitting to Miette. As soon as she grew to the same size as Keiko they started fighting. A month ago I noticed a raw red patch on Keiko’s head that looked like either a bite or a section of skin where the hair was pulled off. I separated the mice overnight and put some cream on the sore and it is mostly healed now. Well last week we caught them fighting and Keiko had another mark on her shoulder. I separated them during the night again and Miette seemed quite calm and afraid in the morning, so I put her back in the cage and watched them to make sure they were ok. I really hoped they could just work it out and be done with it. Well just now (its 12:51 AM – I can’t sleep) they started fighting again so this is finally it – I think I am going to have to separate them for good. This makes me sad because we only have 1 cage so Miette will have to live in a tupperware bowl until I decide what to do and now Keiko has no companion. Poor Keiko was so nice to her too, and I feel realy awful to see these big sores on her from their fights. I can only guess that Miette must have been a dominant one at the pet store and just won’t give it up.
