Its done!

When I returned from Rome, Dan had bought me a welcome-home present … a domain name and a web hosting package. I have been working on selecting, modiflying and personalizing a template as well as spending a large amount of time getting my photo gallery to work.

We initially installed Drupal on my webspace and gave that a try for about a week. Its quite powerful, but a little more than what I need at the moment, and a bit hard to use. So, we installed WordPress instead. After a few initial problems we succeeded in getting that installed. The next thing was to integrate the photo gallery tool Gallery2. Then I found a very useful tutorial on importing my blogger posts here which saved a lot of time. Everything seems to be working together nicely now and I’m very pleased.

I have not had a chance to test the website with different browsers and have only looked at it on a PC a few times, so if you see anything odd or broken, email me or leave a comment so I can fix it.

Make sure you visit the gallery and see the pictures I put there. We have had a digital camera since 1998 and the oldest pictures I can find are from 2000 (sadly, I think the ones we took before that are lost), including some images of our first apartment in Edmonton (Vanier house). Guaranteed to bring on nostalgia. Also, there is a large gallery with 6 sub-galleries for our trip to Europe this summer.

The image is a lion that would have been part of the Ishtar Gate in Bablyon that we saw at the Louvre. Interestingly, the Ishtar gate has been reconstructed in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin.
