never so far, for so long, with so little

with apologies to Sir Winston Churchill…

In 5 days, Dan and I will be taking our vacation. We have been very busy doing last-minue preparations and things have come together well. Last weekend we did a trial packing to see what bags we would be bringing and how much we would have. We’re gong to be travelling very light. Each of us has a backback and a small carry-on bag and I will have a poster tube for the poster I will present in Denmark at the Enterococcus conference. We will be doing laundry as we go, so we will not need to bring too many changes of clothing, which helps a lot. Remember those Listerine fresh breath things that are a tiny strip in a plastic container? Well there are other products like that available now including soap and hair gel. That helps a lot!

I have always been the kind of person who brings too much on a trip because I am worried about needing something that I left at home. This time, I know there are a few things I will have to buy when I am overseas, so hopefully finding them will not be a problem.

I am particularly excited about visiting the Louvre and the British Museum. I did not know this before, but the Louvre has a massive collection of Greek, Roman, Egyptian and Middle Eastern Antiquities which look very interesting. In fact, I wonder if we will have time to visit any paintings at all!!
