Pat and the bus driver

Dan and I went to the Jazz festival closing spectacle tonight. We got to l’Esplanade at about 4:30 and the show did not start until 9:00 but fortunately there was a group of us and I also brought something to read as well as supper. Pat Matheney and his group played their new album “The Way Up” for about an hour and a half. We have some friends who are really into his music and have been to his concerts before so we thought this free outdoor show would be a good chance to see what new jazz is all about. It was pretty cool. The group he has is very talented and of course he was amzing as well. They were able to make some very interesting and unique sounds and had a really nice set of guitars (I think I saw him play at least 5 different ones and I know he uses more than that). Best of all, the group had a really postiive attitude and it looked like they were having a lot of fun.

Dan stayed late to see another show and I caught the metro. I just arrived at my metro station to catch the bus home only to see that it had just pulled away and had left. I started to walk and noticed that it was stopped at a traffic light very close by and thought I might be able to make it if I ran. I did, and just as I came up to the bus, the light turned green, the bus driver glanced at me, and hit the gas. I guess it wasn’t worth a few seconds to stop and let me on (the bus only runs every half hour so it certainly meant a lot to me!). Frustrated, I continued to walk. Next thing I know a car full of ladies stops and asks if I want to try and catch up to the bus. I said thanks but no, since he was unlikely to stop for me. They then offered me a ride and it turned out they live very close to where I do. So instead of waiting for 30 minutes and then taking a 20 minute bus ride, I was home in 10. I don’t think I will ever meet them again, but thank you, ladies! You made my evening!! It just shows that there are some people out there who don’t give a damn and there are those who do think of others and help where they can.

For those who are interested, the concert will be aired on CBC on July 24th (I think). We’re in the crowd at the front on the right…
